WindowSmash project guide

Updated · Covers WindowSmash v0.2.0-alpha.1

WindowSmash is SNO2207’s unofficial static recompilation project for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Its latest alpha Release is source-only, and experimental Linux and Apple silicon Mac setup paths are available.

What WindowSmash is

The project translates game CPU code to C ahead of time, compiles it on your PC and supplies a runtime for graphics, sound, controllers, files and networking. You supply compatible game files you already have.

The source repository does not include the game, keys or firmware. A source archive is the project you build; it is not a complete game download.

Who makes it

The repository is SNO2207/WindowSmash. There is no project-wide source licence. Licences for the included third-party components apply to those components individually.

Use the source installer for the setup paths below. Keep older packaged runtimes with the game-version path they were made for.

Platforms and releases

WindowSmash’s Windows path uses DirectX 11. Linux uses DXVK and SDL2; the Mac path uses Metal and Apple silicon. For Mac, use the macos-port branch.

On Mac, you can reach the opening and menus; full matches still need testing. Game version 13.0.5 also has less match testing than 11.0.0.

The latest tagged prerelease is v0.2.0-alpha.1, with no formal release yet. The source version below includes later development changes; use its matching platform installer.

Install it or report a bug

Use program downloads for source and runtime labels. Follow Windows, Linux or Mac for the selected path; use the project comparison to compare OpenSmash.

For a failure, collect build/play.log and the matching text report from reports/, then follow troubleshooting. Use WindowSmash Issues for a project report.
